├├╟═╙! ╘ERMINAL ╓ERS 4.0 ╔NSTRUCTIONS
╬OTE: ╔F READING THIS WITH THE ╘ERM'S
╥EAD ╞ILE OPTION, YOU MAY USE <SPACE>
TO PAUSE AND THE ╙╘╧╨ KEY TO ABORT.
╘HE ├├╟═╙ ╘ERMINAL WAS WRITTEN FOR
USE WITH ├├╟═╙ (├OMMODORE ├OLOR
╟RAPHICS ═ANIPULATION ╙YSTEM) ┬ULLETIN
┬OARDS. ╔T SHOULD ALSO BE COMPATIBLE
WITH OTHER COLOR ┬┬╙ SYSTEMS AND WITH
┴╙├╔╔ (┴MERICAN ╙TANDARD ├ODE FOR
╔NFORMATION ╔NTERCHANGE) ┬ULLETIN
┬OARDS.
╫HEN YOU RUN THE ├├╟═╙ ╘ERMINAL, YOU
WILL SEE THE FOLLOWING MENU DISPLAYED:
<╞1> ╒PLOAD <╞2> ╙END/╥EAD FILE
<╞3> ─OWNLOAD <╞4> ┬UFFER ├OMMANDS
<╞5> ─ISK ├OMMAND <╞6> ─ISK ─IRECTORY
<╞7> ─IALER/╨ARAMS <╞8> ╙WITCH ╘ERMS
╚ERE IS A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF EACH
OF THESE FEATURES:
<╞1> - ╒PLOAD
╘HIS FEATURE ALLOWS YOU TO SEND A
FILE TO EITHER A ┬┬╙ OR TO ANOTHER
PERSON. ╔F YOU ARE ON A ┬┬╙, YOU
SHOULD FIRST SELECT THE ╒PLOAD OPTION
ON THE BULLETIN BOARD AND WAIT UNTIL
IT TELLS YOU TO "╙ELECT ╘RANSMIT", OR
SOMETHING SIMILAR, BEFORE PRESSING
<╞1>. ╔F YOU WISH TO SEND A FILE TO
ANOTHER PERSON, THEY MUST SELECT THE
─OWNLOAD (╥ECEIVE) ╧PTION IN THEIR
TERMINAL AT THE SAME TIME.
┴FTER PRESSING <╞1>, THE ╘ERMINAL
WILL ASK YOU FOR A FILENAME. ╘YPE
IN THE NAME OF THE FILE ON YOUR DISK
YOU WISH TO SEND (AND HIT <╥┼╘╒╥╬>,
OF COURSE.)
╔T WILL THEN ASK YOU WHETHER THE
FILE IS A ╨ROGRAM OR ╙EQUENTIAL ╞ILE.
╨RESS <╨> OR <╙> ACCORDINGLY - NORMALLY
IT WILL BE A ╨ROGRAM FILE.
┴FTER A BRIEF PAUSE, THE ╘ERMINAL
WILL GIVE YOU THIS DISPLAY:
╒PLOADING... ├= ABORTS
.2.4.6.8./.2.4.6.8./.2.4.6.8./.2.4.6.8./
╔F YOU DO NOT GET THIS DISPLAY WITHIN
A FEW SECONDS OR SO, THEN SOMETHING
HAS PROBABLY GONE WRONG WITH THE
BEGINNING OF THE TRANSFER, AND YOU
SHOULD PRESS THE ├= KEY TO ABORT AND
THEN TRY THE WHOLE PROCEDURE AGAIN.
╘HE NUMBERS ACROSS THE SCREEN SIMPLY
ACT AS A "METER STICK" TO TELL YOU
HOW MANY BLOCKS OF THE PROGRAM HAVE
BEEN SENT OR RECEIVED SO FAR. ┴S
THE TRANSFER PROGRESSES, DASHES WILL
BE PRINTED ON THE SCREEN, ONE FOR EACH
GOOD DATA BLOCK SENT. ╔F A COLON (:)
APPEARS, IT SIGNIFIES A BAD BLOCK,
WHICH MAY BE CAUSED BY INTERFERENCE
ON THE PHONE LINE. ─O NOT WORRY ABOUT
BAD BLOCKS UNLESS YOU GET A WHOLE
BUNCH OF THEM, BECAUSE THE TERMINAL
WILL KEEP ON RESENDING THEM UNTIL
THEY TRANSFER CORRECTLY. ╫HEN THE
TRANSFER IS FINISHED, AN ASTERISK (*)
WILL BE PRINTED AND YOU WILL BE
RETURNED TO ╘ERMINAL ═ODE. ╔F AT ANY
TIME YOU NEED TO ABORT THE TRANSFER,
PRESS AND HOLD THE ├= KEY.
<╞3> ─OWNLOAD
╘HIS FUNCTION LETS YOU RECEIVE A FILE
FROM A ┬┬╙ OR FROM ANOTHER PERSON.
╔F ON A ┬┬╙, YOU MUST FIRST PICK
THE ─OWNLOAD OPTION OF THE BULLETIN
BOARD, AND ENTER THE TERMINAL'S
DOWNLOAD OPTION WHEN IT TELLS YOU
TO "╙ELECT ╥ECEIVE". ╔F RECEIVING
A PROGRAM FROM SOMEONE, THEY MUST ALSO
ENTER THE ╒PLOAD OPTION AS DESCRIBED
ABOVE. ╘YPE IN THE NAME OF THE FILE
AS YOU WANT IT TO APPEAR ON YOUR
DISK. ┴FTER A BRIEF PAUSE, TRANSFER
WILL BEGIN. ╞ROM THIS POINT ON, THE
TRANSFER WORKS EXACTLY LIKE THE ╒PLOAD
OPTION, LISTED IN DETAIL ABOVE.
╔F YOU HAVE TROUBLE REMEMBERING WHICH
IS SEND AND WHICH IS RECEIVE, ALWAYS
THINK OF THE PERSON OR ┬┬╙ AT THE
OTHER END AS BEING ABOVE YOU, OVER
YOUR HEAD. ╔F YOU WANT TO SEND SOME-
THING, YOU HAVE TO SEND IT ╒╨ TO HIM.
╔F YOU WANT TO RECEIVE SOMETHING, IT
HAS TO BE SENT ─╧╫╬ TO YOU.
<╞2> ╙END/╥EAD FILE
┴FTER PRESSING <╞2> THE TERMINAL WILL
ASK YOU WHETHER YOU WANT TO <╥>EAD
A FILE OR <╙>END A FILE. ╘O READ THE
CONTENTS OF A FILE ON DISK, PRESS ╥,
AND THEN ENTER THE NAME OF THE FILE.
╔F YOU WANT THIS FILE TO BE SENT TO
THE MODEM AS WELL, PRESS ╙ AND THEN
ENTER THE NAME. ╘HIS ALLOWS YOU TO
PRE-MAKE YOUR MESSAGES OFF-LINE AND
THEN SEND THEM TO A ┬┬╙.
<╞4> ┬UFFER ├OMMANDS
╨RESSING <╞4> WILL GIVE YOU THIS MENU:
<╧>PEN <├>LOSE <┼>RASE <╘>RANSMIT
<╠>OAD <╙>AVE <╨>RINT:
╘HE STATUS OF THE BUFFFER (WHETHER IT
IS OPEN OR CLOSED AND HOW MANY BYTES
ARE STILL UNUSED) WILL BE DISPLAYED
IMMEDIATELY ABOVE THIS COMMAND LINE.
╨RESS THE APPROPRIATE KEY OF YOUR
CHOICE, OR <╥┼╘╒╥╬> TO RETURN TO
╘ERMINAL MODE. ╫HEN THE ┬UFFER IS
<╧>PEN, EVERYTHING YOU RECEIVE THROUGH
MODEM IN TERMINAL MODE WILL BE STORED.
<├>LOSE THE BUFFER TO STOP THE INCOMING
CHARACTERS FROM BEING STORED. <┼>RASE
THE BUFFER TO CLEAR IT. ╘HE <╘>RANSMIT
OPTION WILL SEND WHAT IS IN YOUR BUFFER
THROUGH THE MODEM, JUST AS IF YOU WERE
SENDING A FILE WITH THE MAIN <╞2> OPT.
<╠>OAD ALLOWS YOU TO LOAD THE CONTENTS
OF A DISK FILE INTO YOUR BUFFER, WHILE
<╙>AVE WILL SAVE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR
BUFFER TO DISK. ╞OR THESE TWO OPTIONS,
TYPE THE NAME OF THE FILE ON YOUR DISK.
┴NY FILE THAT IS LOADED WILL AUTO-
MATICALLY BE APPENDED TO WHATEVER MAY
HAVE BEEN IN THE BUFFER BEFORE THE
LOAD. ╞INALLY, <╨>RINT WILL OUTPUT THE
CONTENTS OF THE BUFFER RAPIDLY TO YOUR
SCREEN, STOPPING AT THE LAST CHARACTER
STORED. ╨RESS <SPACE> TO PAUSE AND
╙╘╧╨ TO ABORT DURING THE OUTPUT.
<╞5> ─ISK ├OMMAND
╘HIS OPTION WILL GIVE YOU THIS PROMPT:
─ISK->
╘YPE IN A COMMAND FOR THE DISK DRIVE
TO EXECUTE, SUCH AS: S0:FILENAME
TO SCRATCH (DELETE) A FILE. ╥EFER TO
YOUR DISK DRIVE MANUAL FOR AN EXPLAN-
ATION OF THE DISK DRIVE COMMANDS.
╨RESS <╥┼╘╒╥╬> TO READ THE DRIVE ERROR
STATUS AND ABORT.
<╞6> ─ISK ─IRECTORY
─ISPLAYS A NORMAL DISK DIRECTORY.
╨RESS <SPACE> TO PAUSE AND ╙╘╧╨ TO
ABORT THE LISTING.
<╞7> ─IALER/╨ARAMS
╘HIS WILL TAKE YOU TO A COMPLETELY
SEPARATE MENU FOR AUTO-DIALING AND
CHANGING TERMINAL PARAMETERS:
<┴>UTO-DIAL ═ODEM
<┬>AUD ╥ATE - 0300
<─>UPLEX - ╞ULL
<═>ODEM ╘YPE - 1650 COMPATIBLES
├HECK TO MAKE SURE THE ═ODEM ╘YPE
MATCHES YOUR MODEM. ╔F NOT, PRESS
THE <═> KEY TO SELECT BETWEEN 1650
COMPATIBLES, ╚┼╙ ╔╔/═ITEY ═O, 1660
MODEM PULSE DIALING, 1660 WITH TOUCH-
TONE DIALING, AND THE ═╨╨ 1064 MODEM.
╔F YOU HAVE A NON-DIAL MODEM, LIKE
THE ╓╔├ 1600, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT
THE ═ODEM ╘YPE. ┘OU MUST DIAL BY
HAND AND THEN CONNECT THE MODEM WHEN
YOU HEAR A CARRIER TONE.
╨RESS <┬> TO SELECT THE BAUD RATE,
BETWEEN 300, 450, AND 1200 BAUD. ┬AUD
RATE IS THE TRANSFER SPEED IN BITS
PER SECOND, AND THE NORMAL RATE
IS 300 BAUD.
╨RESS <─> TO SELECT ╞ULL OR ╚ALF
DUPLEX. ╞ULL DUPLEX IS THE MODE YOU
SHOULD BE IN WHEN YOU CALL A ┬┬╙.
┘OU SHOULD SELECT ╚ALF-─UPLEX WHEN
YOU WANT TO TYPE TO A FRIEND WHO IS
ALSO IN A TERMINAL, OR WHEN YOU WANT
TO TYPE WHILE OFF-LINE, PERHAPS TO
CREATE PRE-MADE MESSAGES IN YOUR
BUFFER AND SAVE THEM AT A LATER TIME.
╥EMEMBER TO SWITCH BACK TO ╞ULL BEFORE
CALLING ANY ┬┬╙'S.
╫HEN YOU WANT TO USE YOUR AUTO-DIAL
MODEM TO DIAL A NUMBER, PRESS THE <┴>
KEY. ╘YPE IN THE NUMBER YOU WISH TO
CALL. ╔T WILL THEN DIAL THE NUMBER
AND WAIT UNTIL IT RECEIVES A CARRIER.
╔F NO CARRIER TONE IS RECEIVED, IT
WILL HANG UP ANDKEEP REDIALING THE
NUMBER UNTIL IT GETS THROUGH, OR
UNTIL YOU ABORT BY HOLDING DOWN ╙╘╧╨.
╬╧╘┼: ╔F YOU HAVE A 1660 MODEM, YOUR
MODEM DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY
TO DETECT IF A CARRIER IS BEING SENT.
╔NSTEAD, ANSWER THE PROMPT YOU WILL
BE GIVEN AS TO WHETHER YOU WANT TO
DIAL A <╬>EW NUMBER, <╥>EDIAL, OR
ABORT TO <╘>ERMINAL ═ODE.
╘O ABORT THE ┴UTO-─IALER COMPLETELY,
PRESS <╥┼╘╒╥╬> WHEN IT ASKS FOR A
NUMBER TO DIAL.
<╞8> ╙WITCH ╘ERMINALS
╘HIS KEY SIMPLY SWITCHES BETWEEN
╟RAPHICS AND ┴╙├╔╔ ╘ERMINALS. ╫HEN
CALLING A ├├╟═╙ OR OTHER COLOR ┬┬╙,
USE THE ╟RAPHICS ╘ERM. ╫HEN CALLING
ANY OTHER ┬┬╙, USE THE ┴╙├╔╔ ╘ERM.
╘HIS CONCLUDES THE SUMMARY OF THE
╞UNCTION ╦EY COMMANDS AND THEIR
SUB-OPTIONS.
╘HE FOLLOWING KEYS ARE ACTIVE IN
EITHER ╟RAPHICS OR ┴╙├╔╔ ╘ERMINAL
═ODES:
╙╚╔╞╘ ╥╒╬/╙╘╧╨ - ╚ANGS UP THE MODEM,
╚ANGS UP THE PHONE. ╫ORKS WITH AUTO-
DIAL MODEMS ONLY.
╙╚╔╞╘ <- (LEFT ARROW) -╘OGGLES BETWEEN
THE TWO DIFFERENT CURSOR TYPES,
DESTRUCTIVE AND NON-DESTRUCTIVE.
╘HE DESTRUCTIVE CURSOR ERASES ANY
CHARACTER IT MOVES OVER, AND LOOKS
LIKE A LEFT ARROW. ╘HE ╬ON-─ESTRUCIVE
├URSOR (╬─├) LOOKS LIKE A NON-BLINKING
VERSION OF ┬ASIC'S CURSOR, AND ALLOWS
CURSOR MOVEMENT OVER EXISTING CHAR-
ACTERS WITHOUT ERASING THEM.
╬OTE: ╫HEN YOU ARE ON A ├├╟═╙ ┬ULLETIN
┬OARD, PLEASE USE THE ├╘╥╠-╩
AND ├╘╥╠-╦ KEYS TO SELECT YOUR
CURSOR TYPE INSTEAD OF ╙╚╔╞╘ <-.
╘HIS WAY THE ┬┬╙ WILL KNOW WHAT
CURSOR MODE YOU ARE IN, SO
OTHER PEOPLE CAN READ YOUR MSSGS
IN THE SAME CURSOR TYPE THEY
WERE CREATED IN.
╠AST, BUT NOT LEAST:
╙╚╔╞╘ ├╘╥╠ AND 1 - 4.
╘HESE KEYS TOGGLE BETWEEN ONE OF
FOUR SEPARATE STORAGE SCREENS, USED
SIMULAR TO ╞IRSTERM'S ├╘╥╠-╪ OPTION.
┘OU CAN USE THESE SEPARATE SCREENS
TO CAPTURE SCREEN-FULS OF INFO SO
YOU MAY REFER TO THEM AT A LATER TIME.
╟REAT FOR CAPTURING ┬┬╙ ═ENUS, MAIL,
AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
╘O USE, WHENEVER SOMETHING YOU WISH
TO "CAPTURE" IS ON THE SCREEN, HOLD
DOWN ╙╚╔╞╘ AND ├╘╥╠, AND PRESS A
NUMBER KEY 1-4, DEPENDING ON WHICH
ALTERNATE SCREEN YOU WANT IT TRANSFERED
TO. ╫HEN YOU DO THIS, IT WILL SWAP
THE SCREEN THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY STORED
UNDER THAT NUMBER WITH WHATEVER YOU
HAVE ON THE SCREEN TO "CAPTURE". ╫HEN
YOU FIRST START OUT, ALL 4 ALTERNATE
SCREENS WILL BE BLANK.
╘O VIEW THAT SCREEN AGAIN AFTER IT'S
CAPTURED, JUST PRESS ╙╚╔╞╘ ├╘╥╠ AND THE
SAME NUMBER KEY AGAIN. ╫HEN YOU ARE
THROUGH LOOKING AT THE MENU OR WHAT-
EVER YOU HAVE SAVED ON THAT SCREEN,
PRESS THE KEY AGAIN TO GO BACK TO
THE SCREEN YOU WERE ON BEFORE.
┼XPERIMENT WITH THIS TO GET THE
ANG
OF HOW IT WORKS. ╧NCE YOU DO, YOU'LL
FIND THIS FEATURE A VALUABLE ADDITION
TO THE TERMINAL.
╚OPE YOU ENJOY THE NEW VERSION OF
THE ├├╟═╙ ╘ERMINAL.
╘HAT'S ALL, FOLKS.
